Maternity Exchange
Something I didn't quite count on when I first started shopping for maternity clothes was how not every outfit will take me and my changing shape through the entire pregnancy. Already at twenty weeks, I have outgrown some of my smaller-cut maternity capris which I bought earlier on in the pregnancy - I am so upset!!

So I have since wisened up and am a little more discerning about the pieces I buy nowadays.

Which is why I really like the ingenious concept behind Maternity Exchange (MX), the first maternity rental store in Singapore.

Maternity Exchange-1

MX offers mums-to-be the flexibility of buying or borrowing maternity wear for up to four weeks at a time from an extensive range of international and local labels, and there is bound to be something to suit all budget sizes. In fact, they have a rather comprehensive online store too.

So in a way, if you go the renting route, you can experiment with different styles and have an accessible wardrobe that grows with you during the nine months, without quite burning a hole in your pocket.

Their Spring collection just came in, which was timely because I was on the lookout to buy a few casual tops to add to my collection.

Here I am wearing: (1) an olive bamboo-cotton top from Mothers En Vogue's organic collection. This (and the next one below) are both nursing tops which will carry me beyond the pregnancy, cleverly designed to allow mothers to nurse their bubs while keeping their decent in public. So clever in fact it took me a while to locate the discrete openings ;)

(I purchased both pieces because I really like them and want to use them when the bub comes later!)

(2) a black Dote ruffle sleeve top from Dote whose range I really liked for their smaller Asian sizes and decent pricing. I wore it to work today and I love that it is very well-constructed and the material is so wonderfully lush and comfy. And take it from me, new mummies, black is extremely flattering!

Of course, my regular pre-pregnancy jeans you see in the picture is held up by the wonderful Bella Band. I bought this from MX a while back and it has just been such a lifesaver. It is essentially a thick, stretchy elastic band that helps hold up your unbuttoned or unzipped pre-pregnancy pants/skirt when you can't quite fit into them anymore but yet are too small to transition to proper maternity wear. I am pretty sure it will come in handy again post-birth as I get myself back into shape again!

I appreciated that the shop folks at MX were very helpful and in no way pushy, and they didn't even bat an eyelid when I was in and out of the changing room bazillion times and took forever deliberating which pieces to get.

MX also carries some really nice-looking and decently-priced lingerie, swimwear and baby gear on the side, which I didn't have time to check out properly so I will definitely be back again!

hi debra, just wanted to tell you that you look great!!! you're glowing! about your tummy stretching, it's a good idea to start moisturising your belly area early in the pregnancy. i've got horrid looking stretch marks on my tummy area (which i call my battle scars from pregnancy) cos i never quite realised the importance of moisturizing early. and these marks stay with you FOR LIFE. boo. bottom line: it's NEVER too early to moisturize. some good brands to look out for are those from Palmers and Mustela. :)

Yeah I've been religiously using Palmers and some other brand my gynae foisted off on me since day one! Not just on my tummy but on my boobs, butt and legs too. I walk around everyday smelling like a giant tub of almond jelly all the time :)

(My mum hasn't stopped bragging that she has no stretch marks after having four kids so I'm determined not to get any from my one kid too else I will never hear the end of it from her!)

You're making me feel like being pregnant again! They should do this fun renting thing for non-pregnant folks too! New wardrobe every month, woo!

Yeah it'd be great for special occasion dresses which you can't wear too many times too, right? I always have this dilemma where I have to think very hard who I'll be meeting at the dinner I am going to JUST IN CASE they have seen me in that particular dress before. So stressful!

What a great idea! =)
Anyway, you're looking Debs. Take care!
